Helen Hayes Award Winner Gin Hammond directed by Victor Lirio
Texas, 1948. A young black woman is confronted by difficult choices: to risk her life and fight for what she believes in, or to escape to Paris and live a life she’s always dreamed of.
Acclaimed actress Gin Hammond won the Helen Hayes Award for Oustanding Lead Actress for her performance of The Syringa Tree and has performed nationally at theatres such as The Guthrie, The Longwharf Theatre, Seattle's ACT, The Berkshire Theatre Festival, Pasadena Playhouse and Studio Theatre in Washington, DC. She recently starred in Cassandra Medley's NOON DAY SUN garnering critical and audience acclaim as Zena, a Black woman passing for White. For her performance in NOON DAY SUN, she earned an Audelco Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress of the Year.
An actor, producer and DCT's Artistic Director, Victor Lirio recently directed Diverse City Theater's critically acclaimed production of Cassandra Medley's NOON DAY SUN earning an Audelco Award nomination for Best Dramatic Production of the Year and Best Play of the Year. For DCT's Green Room, he has directed several original works in development including Christine Toy Johnson's PAPER SON and Kristine Reyes's QUARTER CENTURY BABY, which were presented at The Barrow Group Studios and Ensemble Studio Theatre this year.
DCT GREEN ROOM presents original works in development in a staged reading format by emerging and established playwrights. Its purpose is to provide a creative venue for playwrights to hear their work and foster a creative collaboration among artist directors and actors.
