RACE MUSIC
by Warren Bodow
directed by Victor Lirio

with Michelle Hurst*, William Jackson Harper*, Lori Prince*, David Newer*, Larry Collis*, and Diane Phelan*

RACE MUSIC, set in a metropolitan Midwestern city, proposes that despite making great strides in race relations in America, race continues to play a pivotal role in our personal, business and romantic relationships. Six characters of varying colors, hues, and ancestral origin, struggle to come to terms with the changing racial landscape of our country in dawn-of-Obama 2005.

Warren G. Bodow is a ‘second-act’ playwright, having come to the craft following his first-act, a 30-year career in radio sales and management, most notably as president and general manager of WQXR and WQEW, in New York. In October/November 2007, his play, HARRY THE HUNK ON HIS WAY OUT, was produced by Joan and Richard Firestone at the Cherry Lane Studio Theatre in New York to enthusiastic audience response. Mr. Bodow is a member of the Old Pueblo Playwrights, who presented his one-act play, MFA, at their 2008 Play in a Day Festival. His new play, TWICE BLESSED, will be presented at OPP’s 2009 Festival in March. For three years, he served as board chairman of the Arts & Business Council, Inc., the New York based non-profit advocacy group.

An actor, producer and DCT's Artistic Director, Victor Lirio recently directed Diverse City Theater's critically acclaimed production of Cassandra Medley's NOON DAY SUN, which starred Obie Award Winner Ron Cephas Jones and Gin Hammond (The Syringa Tree), earning Audelco Award nominations for Best Dramatic Production of the Year and Best Play of the Year. For DCT's Green Room, he has directed several original works in development including Christine Toy Johnson's PAPER SON, Kristine Reyes's QUARTER CENTURY BABY, and, recently, Helen Hayes Award Winner Gin Hammond's RETURNING THE BONES.

UPCOMING FOR THE WINTER SERIES:

  • DISORIENTED by Kyoung Park (workshop)
PARIS AND ALEXANDER by Ioannis Limtsioulis (translated by Anton Juan)
    RESURRECTION by Eric Gamalinda
IN SILENCE WHERE WE BREATH by Cassandra Medley
  • ... AND MORE!
