Music and Theater
For us to slowly understand musical theater, let us look into the words music and theater before we integrate them as a whole. On one hand, as explained earlier, music, by definition, can either be vocal or instrumental sounds (or both), combined in such a way to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression. On the other hand, theater, by definition is described to be a place or a stage in which plays and or other dramatic performance takes place.
Now it is time to integrate the meaning of musical theater as a whole. Musical theater is basically a kind of performance in a theater which essentially involves music. A particular act or performance is called a musical. The performance involves, and can be a mix of music, songs, acting, dialogue and dances. Examples of well-known musicals include Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Matilda, Wicked, and West Side Story.
