Diverse City Theater Company Receives Nomination
for Actors Equity's Prestigious Rosetta Lenoire Award
Rosetta Lenoire
NEW YORK--Today, Diverse City Theater Company ("DCT") received a nomination by Actors Equity Association representatives for the prestigious Rosetta Lenoire Award for "outstanding contributions made to the universality of the human spirit in the American Theatre."
Rosetta Lenoire--an American stage, screen, and television actress, Broadway producer and casting agent--championed the cause of racial equity for more than 70 years. Her efforts profoundly influenced the New York theater community. The Actors' Equity Association awarded her the first award for helping contribute to the diversification of theatre casting; in 1988, the award was named the Rosetta LeNoire Award.
On receiving the nomination, DCT's Artistic Director, Victor Lirio, commented: "There is nothing more gratifying and rewarding than being recognized by your peers in the industry and the community. We are grateful for this recognition and to Actors Equity for creating The Rosetta Lenoire Award."
Actors' Equity Association, founded in 1913, is the labor union that represents more than 45,000 Actors and Stage Managers in the United States. Equity seeks to advance, promote and foster the art of live theatre as an essential component of our society. Equity negotiates wages and working conditions and provides a wide range of benefits, including health and pension plans, for its members. Actors' Equity is a member of the AFL-CIO, and is affiliated with FIA, an international organization of performing arts unions.
